The IRS confirms that tax season will begin January 28. The tax agency announced that, despite the government shutdown, it will process tax returns beginning 1/28/19 and provide refunds to taxpayers as scheduled. The IRS believes that it has authority to pay refunds despite a lapse in annual appropriations. It announced that a significant portion of its furloughed workforce will be recalled to work. Additional details about the IRS filing season will be included in an updated FY2019 Lapsed Appropriations Contingency Plan to be released publicly in the coming days. © 2019
